Kate Veitch was born in Adelaide, South Australia in 1955 and grew up in Melbourne. She left school at fifteen, footloose and fancy free. She has not attended any writers’ workshops, in Iowa or elsewhere, but she has done lots of other things from waitressing to property development. Her first novel, Listen, a bestseller in Australia, was also published in Germany and in the US as Without a Backward Glance. Her second novel, Trust, was released in mid-2010.
Kate now lives in the beautiful Northern Rivers region of northern New South Wales with her partner, Phillip Frazer. Having published several essays in Griffith Review, she is now tackling her third novel.
“I always admired the artist Lloyd Rees’s advice to young people: ‘Find what it is you love to do, and do it.’ But the thing is, there are so many things I love to do – and most of them are easier than writing novels. That’s my excuse, anyway, for why I started so late.”
